If your roster is already in a spreadsheet, you can add every player in one go instead of typing them one at a time. You save the spreadsheet as a CSV file, drop it on the team's roster page, check the preview, and import.
Short version
On the team's Roster page, find the Import card. Tap Download template, fill it in with one player per row (number, name, position), save it as CSV, then tap choose a file (or drop it on the card). Check the preview and tap Import N players.
The file format
A roster CSV has three columns, always in this order: number, name, position. One player per row. A header row is optional.
Here's a basketball example:
| number | name | position |
|---|---|---|
2 | Diego Reyes | PG |
23 | Jordan Carter | SG |
5 | Tyler Lewis | SF |
11 | Marco Ortiz | PF |
30 | Sam Kim | C |
| (blank) | Alex Moore | SF |
As text, the file looks like this, one line per row:
number,name,position2,Diego Reyes,PG23,Jordan Carter,SG,Alex Moore,SF(no number yet: start the line with a comma)
The quickest way to get the format right is Download template on the Import card. It saves roster_template.csv with the header and three example rows using your team's sport positions. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers, replace the examples with your players, and save it as CSV. Positions use the short codes in Roster positions for each sport.
Import the file
- Tap Teams, then Roster on the team's card.
- Find the Import card. On a computer it's to the right of the roster; on a phone it's below the list.
- Tap choose a file and pick your CSV, or drag the file onto Drop a CSV here or choose a file.
- A Preview opens, with a count such as 12 valid · 1 skipped. Check each row: number, name and position.
- Tap Import 12 players (the number matches your valid rows). It reads Importing… while it works.
- When it's done, you'll see 12 players imported successfully. and the players appear in the roster.
Nothing is saved until you tap Import. If the preview looks wrong, tap Cancel (or the close button), fix the file, and choose it again.
How each row is read
Knowing these rules makes the preview easy to check:
- Columns go by position, not by header. The first column is always the number, the second the name, the third the position, whatever your header says.
- The header row is skipped if the first row contains the word "name", "number" or "position". Any other first row is treated as a player, so use the template's header or none at all.
- Blank lines are skipped.
- A row with only one column is read as a name with no number.
- A row with two columns is read as number and name. A row like
Alex Moore,SFis read as number "Alex Moore" and name "SF", so keep three columns and leave the number empty instead:,Alex Moore,SF. - No commas inside a value. Commas always split columns, even inside quotes, so "Reyes, Diego" or "Smith, Jr." break the row. Write names without commas, like "Diego Reyes" and "Tom Smith Jr.". Quotes around a value are removed.
- Positions are matched to your sport's list, ignoring upper and lower case ("pg" becomes PG). A position that isn't on the list, or a blank one, becomes the sport's first position: QB in football, GK in soccer, PG in basketball, P in baseball and softball. Check the preview for players who've landed there by mistake.
- Rows with no name show Missing name and are skipped.
- There's no duplicate check. Importing the same file twice adds every player twice.
Fix problems
The preview shows every row as one long name. Your spreadsheet saved the file with semicolons or tabs between columns instead of commas. Save it again as "CSV (comma delimited)" or the equivalent in your spreadsheet app.
There's a player named after your header, such as "Player". Your header row didn't contain "name", "number" or "position", so it was read as a player. Remove that player, and use number, name, position as the header next time.
Lots of players got the same position. Their positions weren't recognized and fell back to the sport's first position. Fix the codes in the file and import again, or tap Edit on each player afterward. Remember to remove the first import's players first, or you'll have duplicates.
The result says "10 players imported, 2 failed." Most players saved, but two didn't. Usually that's a dropped connection or a number longer than 10 characters. Compare the roster with your file and add the missing players with + Add player.
Players were imported twice. Tap Remove on each duplicate and confirm. See Add, edit and remove players.
