The ScoreCastr chip: Live, Catching up, Resync and Unlink

Read the link's status at a glance, send the latest stats again, or unlink the game.

Once a game is linked to ScoreCastr, a small chip in the dark score panel tells you whether your stats are reaching the broadcast. It's on the Live page next to Undo, on the game's page, and on the dashboard's live game card. Tap it for details and two actions: Resync now and Unlink.

Short version

Green ScoreCastr · Live means ScoreCastr has your latest stats. Amber ScoreCastr · Catching up means it's sending or retrying. Red ScoreCastr error needs you: tap the chip, read the message, and use Resync now or Unlink and link again.

The three states

ChipWhat it meansWhat to do
ScoreCastr · Live (green dot)ScoreCastr has received everything you've logged. The menu says "Up to date · last sent" and a time.Nothing. Keep scoring.
ScoreCastr · Catching up (amber dot)A new play is on its way, or StatsCastr is retrying after a hiccup. The menu says "Sending the latest stats…" or explains the problem.Usually nothing. It turns green within seconds once ScoreCastr answers.
ScoreCastr error (red dot)ScoreCastr turned the stats down and StatsCastr has stopped trying.Tap the chip and follow the message. See below.

On the Live page the chip updates every few seconds. On the game's page and the dashboard it updates while the game is live.

A game that isn't linked shows Link to ScoreCastr instead (on the game's page and the Live page, until the game is final). If you see neither, linking is switched off on the server; contact support. See Link a game to ScoreCastr.

Open the menu

Tap the chip. The menu shows:

  • the ScoreCastr match's title
  • the status line: "Up to date · last sent 7:42:10 PM", "Sending the latest stats…" or an error message
  • Resync now
  • Unlink

Resync now

Resync now sends the game's full, current stats to ScoreCastr straight away. You'll see "Sending the latest stats to ScoreCastr".

Use it when:

  • the chip has been amber for more than a minute
  • the broadcast graphics look out of date
  • your connection, or ScoreCastr's, just came back
  • you edited plays after the final and want the graphics to match

Every send carries the whole box score, not just the last play, so a resync can't double-count anything.

If it fails, you'll see Couldn't resync with the reason. "This game is not linked" means the link has already ended; link again with a new code.

  1. Tap the chip, then Unlink.
  2. Read Unlink from ScoreCastr?: "New stats stop going to the broadcast. ScoreCastr keeps showing the last stats it received. You can link again with a new code."
  3. Tap Unlink to confirm, or Keep linked.

You'll see Unlinked from ScoreCastr and the chip changes back to Link to ScoreCastr. If ScoreCastr couldn't be reached at that moment, the message adds: "ScoreCastr couldn't be reached. Its graphics keep the last stats it received." The game is unlinked on the StatsCastr side either way.

Nothing in StatsCastr is deleted when you unlink: the game, its stats and its play-by-play stay as they are.

To link again, get a new code from ScoreCastr. Linking a game to a different match replaces the old link.

Error messages in the menu

MessageWhat to do
Can't reach ScoreCastr. Stats will send when the connection is back.Wait. StatsCastr keeps retrying for up to two hours. Tap Resync now once ScoreCastr is back.
ScoreCastr rejected the signature. Unlink and link again with a new code.Unlink, make a new code in ScoreCastr, and link again.
ScoreCastr rejected the stats data. Contact support.Email info@eightyfivecreative.com with the game's link.
ScoreCastr error: followed by a codeTap Resync now. If it comes back, email support with the code.

If the chip suddenly changes back to Link to ScoreCastr on its own, the link was ended on the ScoreCastr side (someone unlinked it, or linked the match to a different game). Get a new code and link again if you still need it.

More fixes are in Fix ScoreCastr link errors.

After the final

The chip stays on a final game's page, so you can still Resync now or Unlink, but Link to ScoreCastr no longer appears: a final game can't be newly linked. Corrections you make after the final are sent to ScoreCastr too.

Checklist

  • Chip shows green ScoreCastr · Live at the start
  • Amber that lasts more than a minute fixed with Resync now
  • Red ScoreCastr error message read and acted on
  • Unlink used only when you want stats to stop going to the broadcast
