Gyms and fields often have patchy signal. If your connection drops while the Live page is open, you can keep logging: new plays are saved on your phone and sent when the connection comes back. There are a few rules, though, and this guide is honest about them.
Short version
Open the game's Live page while you still have signal, and keep it open. If the signal drops, keep logging; plays show as Queued. Don't reload or close the page until the banner at the top is gone, and don't tap End Game while plays are still waiting.
The rules
- Open the Live page before you lose signal. StatsCastr can't load a page without a connection, so open Track Stats at the start of the game, while you're online.
- Keep the Live page open. Queued plays are sent from that game's Live page, and only while it's open. If you go to another page, they wait on your phone until you come back to the game's Live page with a connection.
- Don't reload or close the page while you're offline. The page won't load again until you're back online.
- Use the same phone and browser. Queued plays are stored in that browser on that phone. Another phone, or another browser on the same phone, can't see them.
- Don't end the game until everything has synced. Once a game is final, its Live page won't open, so plays still waiting on your phone can't be sent.
While you're offline
- A banner at the top of the Live page says Offline — stats will be queued, then Offline — 3 events queued (with your count) once you log plays.
- Each play shows a message, Stat queued (offline) with Will sync when connection returns.
- Queued plays appear at the bottom of the Play Log marked Queued, and the strip under the score reads Queued instead of Latest.
- The score on your Live page includes queued points (except in volleyball, where the score is sets won). In tennis, each queued point is added to the sets score, so the big score reads too high until the points are sent. The fan page doesn't show queued plays until they're sent.
The − and + period buttons and the clock box still work on your phone, and queued plays keep the period and clock you logged them with. The fan page catches up with the period and clock when the queued plays are sent.
These need a connection, so wait until you're back online: undoing or deleting a play that has already saved, editing a play, and the edit forms.
When the connection comes back
StatsCastr sends the queued plays in the order you logged them. The banner says Syncing 3 queued events…, and each Queued row disappears from the end of the log as it's saved and moves into place as a normal play. When everything is sent, the banner goes away.
After a long offline spell, scroll through the Play Log and check that nothing was saved twice. If a play shows up twice, delete the extra one (see Undo a play and use the play log).
Weak signal
Sometimes your phone thinks it's online but the connection is too weak to save a play. Then you'll see Stat queued (connection error) with Will retry when connection improves. The play is queued and StatsCastr tries it again straight away. Keep logging.
Failed plays and Retry
If a queued play can't be sent, its row turns red with Failed and a Retry button, and the banner says, for example, 1 event failed to sync — see play log.
- Make sure you're back online.
- Tap Retry on the row. (It's greyed out while you're offline or while other plays are syncing.)
If it still can't be sent you'll see Retry failed with The event is still queued. Try again when the connection is stable.
Reloading the Live page while you're online also tries every waiting play again.
When a play keeps failing while you're online
If you have a good connection and a play still fails, StatsCastr has refused it rather than lost it.
A play that failed because of a mistyped time in the clock box goes through when you tap Retry: StatsCastr drops the bad time and saves the play without it. New plays can't fail this way, because StatsCastr checks the clock when you leave the box (see Change the period and set the clock).
If Retry still fails, it's sending a play StatsCastr won't take. Instead:
- If the failed play is the newest thing you logged (the Undo button names it), tap Undo to remove it from your phone.
- Log the play again.
Queued and failed rows have no Delete button, so once you've logged something newer, a failed play can't be removed. It stays on that phone's Live page until the game ends, and its points stay in the Live page score, but it is not saved: the fan page, box score and standings don't include it. Log the play again so the real stats are right, and use the fan page score as your guide.
