Keep lacrosse stats: men's and women's

The men's and women's lacrosse buttons, what each records, and how the game's ruleset decides which ones you get.

Updated October 19, 2026 · 5 min read

This is the button-by-button reference for scoring lacrosse in StatsCastr. Men's and women's games share most buttons, and the game's ruleset adds the ones that differ: faceoffs and timed penalties for men's, draw controls and cards for women's. For an overview of what StatsCastr does for lacrosse, see the lacrosse page.

Short version

Pick Men's Field Lacrosse or Women's Field Lacrosse before you create the game. Then tap the team, the stat, and the player (or Skip). Log assists with Assist, use Man-up Goal or Man-down Goal in place of Goal in men's games, and tap + at the end of each quarter.

Men's or women's: set it before the game

RulesetQuartersExtra buttons
Men's Field Lacrosse4 × 12:00Faceoffs, penalties, man-up and man-down
Women's Field Lacrosse4 × 15:00Draw controls, fouls and cards

New games copy the league's ruleset. To use the other one for a single game, choose it in Lacrosse ruleset on the new game form. The ruleset can't be changed after the game is created, so check it before you tap Create game. See Rulesets for each sport, and changing one for a single game.

Rosters use one position list for both: G, D, LSM, M, A and FO. For a women's team, use G for goalkeepers and D, M and A for everyone else. Positions only group the roster; they don't limit any stat.

Quarters and the clock

  • Quarters show as Q1 to Q4. + moves to the next quarter, − goes back.
  • + greys out at Q4. There's no overtime period on the Live page yet, so log overtime plays in Q4.
  • The clock box resets to 12:00 (men's) or 15:00 (women's) each quarter. It doesn't run by itself: type the time, like 04:32, and it saves when you leave the box. A time longer than the quarter isn't saved: you'll see Check the clock, and the box goes back to its last saved time.

See Change the period and set the clock.

PenaltyOpens Penalty minutes: 1 minutes, 2 minutes, 3 minutes or 5 minutes. No player step.
Man-up GoalA goal scored with the extra man. Counts as the goal, so don't log Goal too.
Man-down GoalA goal scored a man down. Also counts as the goal.
Man-up / Man-downMarks the situation in the play log. It doesn't add to any total in the box score.

A penalty counts for the team only when you log it. To give it to a player, tap Edit on the penalty in the play log and pick the Player.

Goals, assists and saves

  • The goal panel asks only for the scorer. Log the assist with Assist while the scoring team is selected. Editing a goal shows an Assist field too, but an assist entered there doesn't add to the totals yet, so use the button.
  • Save percentage is saves divided by saves plus goals against. Log the shooter's Shot on Goal and the goalie's Save for each stop, so both show.

What the box score shows

  • Team stats: Score, Goals, Shots / SOG, Assists, then Man-up / Man-down goals, Faceoffs and Penalties / min (men's) or Draw controls, Fouls and Cards (G/Y/R) (women's), then Ground balls, Turnovers / Caused and Saves / SV%.
  • Player stats: Scoring (G, A, PTS, MUG, MDG), Field Play (SH, SOG, GB, TO, CT), Faceoffs & Penalties (FOW, FOL, FO%, PEN, PIM) or Draws & Discipline (DC, FL, GC, YC, RC), and Goalkeeping (SV).
  • Standings: W, L, T, PCT, GF and GA and STK.
  • Season leaders: Points / Game, Goals / Game, Assists / Game, Shots on Goal / Game, Saves / Game, Ground Balls / Game, Caused Turnovers / Game, Faceoff Wins / Game and Draw Controls / Game. The faceoff card stays empty in a women's season, and the draw card in a men's season.

Undo takes back the last play, and Edit on a play-log row changes it. When you change a play's event, pick one from your game's own ruleset: a women's button in a men's game won't save. See Edit or delete any play, during or after the game and Log stats live.

Checklist

  • Ruleset checked on the new game form before Create game
  • Assists logged with the Assist button
  • Man-up and man-down goals logged with their own buttons, not Goal as well
  • Penalties edited to add the player, if you track PIM
  • + tapped at the end of each quarter
