How standings work

Which games count, what each column means, and how teams are ranked.

Updated October 18, 2026 · 3 min read

StatsCastr builds your standings on its own from final scores. There's nothing to enter: end a game, and the table updates. This guide explains exactly which games count and how each number is worked out, so you can answer the parent who asks why their team is third.

Short version

Only final games in the season count, and only between two teams that are in the season. Teams are ranked by PCT (ties count as half a win), then head-to-head, then point difference.

Where to see them

  • The season page: tap League, then View standings, or Standings → next to any season under All seasons. Every team in the season is listed, with stat leaders and recent games below.
  • The dashboard: the Standings card shows the top four teams of your active season, with W-L and STK. Full standings → opens the season page.
  • The fan page: every season game's public page ends with Season standings, with the game's two teams highlighted. See What fans see on the game page.

Which games count

A game counts in a season's standings when all of these are true:

  • It's in the season (you chose the season under Counts toward when you created it).
  • Its status is Final. Scheduled and live games don't count until you tap End Game.
  • Both teams are in the season's Teams in season list.

These don't count:

  • Scrimmages, games created without a season. See Scrimmages.
  • Games in a deleted season. They become scrimmages.
  • Games against a team you've removed from the season. They stop counting for both teams until you add the team back.
  • The Starting record on a team's form. Season standings are built only from games in StatsCastr.

Fixed a play after the final? The score rebuilds, and the standings use the new score.

What each column means

ColumnWhat it is
W, L, TWins, losses and ties. A game is a tie when the final score is level.
PCTWins plus half the ties, divided by games played. 2-1-0 is .667, 1-0-1 is .750. A team with no games shows .000.
PF / PAPoints for and against: the total of the team's scores and its opponents' scores in counted games.
GF / GAThe same, labelled goals for and against, for soccer, hockey, field hockey, lacrosse and tennis.
R / RAThe same, labelled runs and runs against, for baseball and softball.
STKThe current streak: W3 is three wins in a row, L1 one loss, T1 one tie. A dash means no games yet.

In volleyball and tennis the score is sets won, so PF and PA (or GF and GA) add up sets, not points or games.

How teams are ordered

  1. Higher PCT first.
  2. Head-to-head: if two teams have the same PCT, the one with the better record in their games against each other goes first.
  3. Point difference: if that's still level (or they haven't played each other), the bigger PF minus PA goes first.

The number down the left is the position. It isn't a tiebreak; two level teams still get different numbers.

Streak order

The streak follows the order you created the games in StatsCastr, not the game dates. If you enter results out of order (for example, adding an old game late), the streak can be off. Creating games in the order they're played keeps it right.

When the numbers look wrong

  • A game is missing: open it and check it says Final and isn't tagged Scrimmage. A game that's still Live needs End Game.
  • A team is missing: add it under Teams in season on the League page. See Create a season and add teams.
  • "No standings yet. Add teams and play games to see standings.": the season has no teams yet.
  • The dashboard shows a different season: it shows the first Active season. Set the season you want to Active. See Manage a season.

Checklist

  • Every team in the season added under Teams in season
  • Season games created with the season under Counts toward
  • End Game tapped on every finished game
  • Games created in the order they're played, so streaks are right
