Scrimmages: games that don't count

Full stats for preseason, practice and one-off games, without touching your season standings.

A scrimmage is any game that isn't in a season. You still get the full box score, the play-by-play, the fan link and the exports. The only difference is that it stays out of your season's standings and stat leaders. Use one for preseason games, practice scrimmages, tournaments you don't want in your record, or a one-off game with no league at all.

Short version

On + New Game, tap Scrimmage under Counts toward. With no league or open season, every game is a scrimmage automatically. Scrimmages show a Scrimmage tag on the dashboard and the Games list.

Create a scrimmage

  1. Tap Games, then + New Game.
  2. Choose the Sport, the Away team and the Home team.
  3. Under Counts toward, tap Scrimmage. The form confirms: "Scrimmage games don't count toward season standings."
  4. Set the Game date and Location, and tap Create game.

Scrimmage is already selected when the form opens, so if you want a season game, tap the season instead. See Schedule a game.

If you don't see Counts toward at all, your active league has no Active or Upcoming season for this sport. The game is created as a scrimmage.

A scrimmage's teams don't have to be in a season. Any two teams of the same sport will do.

The win-loss record on each team card on Teams counts every final game the team played, scrimmages included. The standings on the season page count only that season's games.

On the game's own page, a team's record shows its season record for a season game, and its record across all final games for a scrimmage.

Spotting a scrimmage

Scrimmages carry a small Scrimmage tag:

  • on the dashboard's live game cards, Up next and Recent finals
  • on the game cards in the Games list

On a laptop, the Preview panel on the new game form shows Season: Scrimmage before you create it.

Changing your mind

A game's season can't be changed after it's created, in either direction.

  • A scrimmage that should have counted: if you haven't logged stats yet, delete it and create it again with the season selected. If you have, it stays a scrimmage; deleting it would delete its stats too. See Delete a game.
  • A season game that shouldn't count: the same applies. Delete and recreate it before the game if you can.

If you delete a whole season, its games aren't deleted: they stay in your games list as scrimmages. See Manage a season.

Checklist

  • Scrimmage selected under Counts toward (or no open season)
  • Scrimmage tag showing on the game card
  • Season games created with the season selected, not as scrimmages
  • Wrong choice fixed by deleting and recreating before any stats were logged
