This is the button-by-button reference for scoring a baseball game in StatsCastr: what each button records, how to log runs and outs so the numbers come out right, and how pitching lines are built. For an overview of what StatsCastr does for baseball, see the baseball page.
Short version
Before the first pitch, log Pitching Change for each team's starter. Then for each plate appearance, tap the batting team, the result (Single, Walk, Strikeout, Out and so on) and the batter. Add Run Scored for each runner who crosses the plate, and tap + when the inning is over.
Innings and rules
Baseball has one ruleset, Regulation (9 Innings), shown in the league form as "Regulation (9 Innings) · 9 innings, extra innings allowed".
- Innings are labelled 1st, 2nd, 3rd and so on. One inning number covers both halves: StatsCastr doesn't track top and bottom, outs, the count or base runners.
- There's no game clock.
- + moves to the next inning whenever you tap it. The app doesn't count outs, so tap it only when the inning is really over. Tapped too early? − goes back. See Change the period and set the clock.
- Extra innings run up to ten past regulation (the 19th).
- The Score by Inning panel has an Edit button for overriding the line score. See Override the score by period.

Set up the starting pitchers
Pitching lines come from Pitching Change. Every batter after a team's Pitching Change counts against that pitcher until the team's next one. Log it for each starter before the first pitch:
- Tap the team in the field (the pitcher's own team).
- Tap Pitching Change. The Select new pitcher panel lists only players whose position is P.
- Tap the pitcher. There's no Skip: you pick a pitcher or tap Cancel.
Do the same for the other team's starter, and again whenever a reliever comes in.
- Plays logged before a team's first Pitching Change aren't charged to any pitcher. Pitching lines follow the order plays were logged, so logging the starter later doesn't pick them up.
- If the panel says No players found for this position., no one on that roster has the P position. Edit the player's position on the roster (see Add, edit and remove players), including anyone who usually plays another position and comes in to pitch.
- No opponent roster means no opponent pitching lines. Their team stats still work.

The stat buttons
Every button except Score Adjust and Pitching Change opens Select player (optional). Tap the player, or Skip to log it for the team only. Buttons that put a run on the board show +1 pts.
| Button | Tap this team | What it records |
|---|---|---|
| Single, Double, Triple | Batting | A hit and an at-bat for the batter |
| Home Run | Batting | A hit, an at-bat, a home run and a run for the batter. Adds 1 run. |
| Walk | Batting | A walk. Not an at-bat. |
| Strikeout | Batting | A strikeout and an at-bat. One out for the pitcher. |
| Out | Batting | An at-bat. One out for the pitcher. |
| Run Scored | Batting | A run for the runner. Adds 1 run. |
| Stolen Base | Batting | A stolen base for the runner |
| Error | Fielding | An error for the team, and the fielder if you pick one |
| Score Adjust | Either | Opens Score adjustment: +1 run or -1 run |
| Pitching Change | Fielding | The new pitcher (see above) |
Log runs and outs the right way
Runs. Home Run already scores the batter. Log Run Scored only for the runners who come home. A three-run homer is Home Run for the batter plus Run Scored for each of the two runners.
Outs. Innings pitched comes from Strikeout and Out, three per inning. Log every out, and log a strikeout as Strikeout only (not Out as well). For an out that isn't the batter's at-bat, such as a runner caught stealing or the second out of a double play, log Out and tap Skip so no batter is charged an extra at-bat. It still counts as a team at-bat, so the team Batting Avg dips slightly.
What isn't tracked. RBIs, sacrifices, hit by pitch and earned runs have no button. A sacrifice fly logged as Out counts as an at-bat.
What the box score shows
- Team stats: Runs, Hits, Home Runs, Walks, Strikeouts, Stolen Bases, Errors, Batting Avg.
- Batting: AB, H, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, BB, K, SB, R, AVG.
- Pitching: IP, H, BB, K, R, ERA. The group appears once a Pitching Change is logged. IP is written in thirds, so 5.2 means five and two-thirds innings. ERA is runs per nine innings pitched, and it counts every run scored while the pitcher was in, earned or not.
- Standings: W, L, T, PCT, R (runs for), RA (runs against) and STK.
- Season leaders: Hits / Game, Runs / Game, Walks / Game, Strikeouts / Game, Stolen Bases / Game, ERA, Strikeouts / Game (P) and Innings Pitched / Game.
The PDF and CSV box scores carry the same groups. See Download a PDF or CSV box score.
Fix a play
Undo takes back the last play. To change an older one, tap Edit on its row in the play log: you can change the Event (a Single to a Double, say), the Player or the Period (the inning number). For a Pitching Change, the field is New pitcher. Baseball plays have no clock, so the editor says "Baseball and softball events use innings and do not have a game clock." Changing a Pitching Change's pitcher works; moving it earlier in the game doesn't. See Edit or delete any play, during or after the game and Log stats live.
Checklist
- Every pitcher has the P position on the roster
- Pitching Change logged for both starters before the first pitch
- Run Scored logged for runners only, not for a home-run hitter
- Every out logged once, as Strikeout or Out
- + tapped only when the inning is over
